The energy on Simple Minds Live in the City of Light is just astounding. There is not one single bad track on this 2 record set, it NEVER gets boring or tedious. I've been listening to this thing since it was released back in the late 80's and maybe it isn't in constant rotation anymore and hasn't been for some time - BUT... whenever I come back to this collection, it ALWAYS sounds fresh and fantastic. Lisa Germano's contribution on Someone, Somewhere in Summertime adds something magical that can make me tear up every single time I hear it. In many ways this release was the zenith of Simple Minds; it's such a shame they somehow let it all slip away... they are still around and still make some good music... I even met Jim, Charlie and Mel in Denver CO on the Real Life tour but felt the energy had definitely dropped off a bit by then with Michael's departure. In my mind this was just the top of the top of the top of the heap. The musicianship, the energy, the whole vibe is just fantastic. so good that this is the 3rd... maybe 4th time I have purchased it (just purchased this remaster.Oh and I certainly agree with an earlier reviewing that many of these songs from New Gold Dream, Sparkle in the Rain and Once Upon A Time are better experienced in this live setting. Just a wonderful wonderful set that I will NEVER get tired of.
