This is a great book. Its very simple but the recipes are nice. One thing i particularly like is that the author makes it very clear throughout that the recipes can be treated as inspiration points - and that changes can be made as people want.I think it would be a very nice book for a newer cook for that reason - it gives the user the choice of following the recipe precisely but also encourages people to have confidence and make substitutions, changes and so on as they want. It takes the "will I get it wrong" aspect out of the process. Its also very nice for experienced cooks - I find it inspiring and have a lot of cooking experience.I like the way its presented - I like the way the recipes look handwritten - like the old Moosewood cookbook (but without the insane amounts of cheese and cream). I also like that its not a huge book - there are a reasonable number of carefully selected recipes.
