This is THE definitive Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble live performance, rivaled only by their final Austin City Limits appearance back in '89. This is Stevie at his guitar-hurricane finest. Man, this band was so good. Watching Voodoo Chile, Texas Flood, and Third Stone From The Sun performed live is by itself almost worth the price of the DVD.Filmed at the El Mocambo Tavern - a darkly lit, intimate, beer-soaked club in Toronto (Canada's version of the old CBGB's), it is one of the most electrifying virtuoso performances you'll probably ever see. Fortunately, cameras rolled (to my knowledge, nobody's ever explained exactly whose idea that was), and it was filmed in the classic Austin City Limits style (including picking and fretwork close-ups, although not quite as polished as an ACL production) using multiple cameras. The only gripe I have is that their set wasn't longer! Coming in at just over an hour, it leaves you wanting more.Whether you are a long-time SRV/DT fan, or are just now discovering them, GET THIS. Turn down the house lights, crack a cold one, and crank it up. Sit back and experience of one of the finest blues guitarists ever, backed by Chris and Tommy - a fantastic, no excuses R&B rhythm section. It's unreal how they were able to keep up with Stevie when he went off on one of his tangents and stay with him when he was the only one on stage who knew where he was going next. They made his improv style completely seamless. These guys were in the zone that night; obviously feeding off of the energy in the crowd and Stevie's galvanizing performance.Concerning the 2011 reissue:Picture quality is outstanding. Overall, the audio is superb, with the following caveat: there are some minor audio drop-offs in a few places throughout the concert (not really too many, and not really too severe). Not being an audio engineer, perhaps it was due to flaws in the original master tape from 1983 made more apparent by the digital conversion process. It may be something else entirely, but the fact is the problem does exist in a few spots on this DVD (2:43-2:54 during 'Testify' was the most evident for me). It's more perceptible when heard through headphones than it is using room speakers.Does it ruin the DVD? Personally for me, no. In fact, I'm probably nitpicking. I simply want to pass the information along. My rating and recommendation stands. It certainly isn't my intention to spook anyone and cause them to avoid this unbelievable DVD. It's the best version of this concert available, and sometimes you have to overlook minor issues. My remedy is don't use headphones. Just crank it through your stereo. LOUD is how it was meant to be enjoyed anyway! Also, thanks to 5.1 Marketing and Amazon. My shipment arrived 3 days ahead of schedule (during the Christmas rush, even). You guys rock.
