The late seventies/early eighties were a bonanza for director Ruggero Deodato. "Jungle Holocaust," "Cannibal Holocaust" and of course this film, among others. Deodato knew his audience (randy, restless young men looking for fun and excitement), and what they really wanted to see (guys like themselves embarking on adventures both dangerous and sexual). Unlike his contemporaries, he gave us what we wanted, combining the best elements of frontal-friendly Passolini and bloody Argento."Live Like a Cop, Die Like a Man" (isn't that a great title?) hits the ground running and never slows down. From the first scene to the last, it's action, action, action as two hot studs beat, burn and boink their ways across Italy, breaking the rules and bringing vigilante justice to those who would otherwise go unpunished. Yeah!Car chases, motorcycle chases, shootouts, punchy interrogations (you'll love what they do to the two hoods in the casino), double crosses and no holds barred violence will keep you wide awake through this one. If not, sexy leading man Marc Porel will. Mr. Porel is worth the price of admission, all by himself; unlike the heroes in American films, he's not a hostile competitor to his buddies, but an affectionate partner—sharing bed, bimbo and bottle with them for some eminently cool bro-bonding.The blu ray looks fantastic. Color, contrast and clarity and gorgeous. Sound is clean and excellent. Even when projected on a 100" screen, it looks like a 35mm print at the theater - you won't be disappointed. They don't make 'em like this anymore, which is all the more reason to add this blu ray to your collection. I'm glad I did.
