Product Description . Review Slim as a pencil in skintight white jeans and sequined stilettos, Andrea McArdle was in rockin motor-mode in her new show at 54 BELOW.... Opening with Odyssey's 'Native New Yorker', she celebrated her teen years on Broadway when she appeared as the original Annie. It was the '70s, and her song list reflected the energy and the rhythms of the city along with the influence of theater. Fired with energy, McArdle grabbed hold of the rhythms and, with her warm vibrato, she mixed the moods of pop and show tunes. McArdle has the veteran's know-how about choosing material that suits her husky belt and acting finesse, like Lionel Bart's 'Where Is Love?' and the lusty 'As Long As He Needs Me' (both from Oliver!). Moving to the intimate side, she delivered an outstanding rendition of Stephen Schwartz's 'Meadowlark'. --Cabaret ScenesThe evening was truly a celebration of Broadway.... Throughout the evening, McArdle's powerful alto voice never flagged, nor did the singer s energy. McArdle has the confidence that comes with growing up on the stage. --Times Square ChroniclesThe evening was truly a celebration of Broadway.... I had the great fortune to see Andrea McArdle's show "70's and Sunny" live at Feinstein's in San Francisco last month. Now I've seen a lot of cabaret shows by some big names, but this is the first time that I was compelled to buy the album after the show. And I am very glad I did. I can't stop listening to it.Andrea McArdle has a wonderful and powerful voice. Something about it, I think it's the tone, makes it so recognizable and special to me. Plus she can belt to the high heavens! And she knows how to use that power to put emotion behind the singing which is what makes listening to her a moving experience. My favorites on the album include "Meadowlark" (the best version I've ever heard of that song), "Fallin'/Being Alive," "I Believe in Love," "Wherever He Ain't," and "Over the Rainbow." But honestly, I love them all. A few of them she didn't sing at the show I saw, so it was great to be able to hear them. The setlist is an awesome mix of favorites and lesser known gems.I believe everyone needs to hear this woman sing "Tomorrow" live before they die. It is a life-changing event. I've heard a lot of people sing that song, and I often don't really like it. But when Andrea McArdle sings it, the tears stars start flowing. The live performance of it on this album is probably the next best thing to seeing her in person. I am very thankful that she performed it.Her patter is good, but I would have loved to hear juicier stories about being a teen star in the 1970's. She talked about going to Studio 54 at 13, but I want to know what she saw and what she was doing. Perhaps some backstage Annie gossip? This is a fantastic album that any Broadway or 70's music fan would love. I hope Andrea McArdle does more cabaret in the future.
